Women’s Full Highlight Aftercare (and yes, brow threading questions too)

By Bloom Salon & Med Spa | July 11, 2026

When someone tells us “the color is perfect”, we want it to stay that way. The single biggest rule after a Women’s Full Highlight is simple: give your hair 48 hours before you shampoo or do anything that makes you sweat hard. That short pause helps the cuticle settle so your bright result stays cleaner, shinier, and more even, especially in the Las Vegas heat.

Quick reminder: Women’s Full Highlight is a full head highlight service for a dramatic, vibrant result. Ours starts at $175. Aftercare is what keeps that brightness looking expensive instead of brassy.

First 24 to 48 hours: the rules that protect your tone

Right after highlights, your hair can feel amazing, but it’s also a little more “open” than usual. We generally recommend you keep the first two days low-key so you don’t undo the work.

Your 48-hour checklist

  • Don’t shampoo yet. Water and friction can rough up the cuticle early on. If your scalp feels oily, dry shampoo is usually the better move.
  • Skip heavy sweating. Hot yoga, long runs, saunas, and steamy workouts can push moisture and salt into the hair. If you have a shift-worker schedule, keep workouts lighter for two days, then get back to it.
  • No tight ponytails or hard creases. Clips and elastics can leave dents in freshly processed hair. A loose braid or a soft scrunchie helps.
  • Turn down the heat tools. If you have to style, use the lowest heat that gets the job done and add a heat protectant.

If you’re in Southwest Las Vegas or Enterprise along the Blue Diamond Road corridor and you’re popping out into the sun a lot, cover your hair or keep it shaded. Desert sun can fade highlights faster than you think.

Days 3 to 7: keep “the color is perfect” looking perfect

This is the week where most tone issues show up in Las Vegas, mainly from sun, heat styling, and pool season. We see it all the time: hair looks incredible leaving the salon, then chlorine or too-hot tools make blondes go warm fast.

Swimming plan (especially during summer pool season)

Avoid chlorinated pools and ocean water for at least 72 hours. If you’re going anyway, do these three things: wet your hair with fresh water first, smooth in a barrier (a leave-in conditioner works), and rinse immediately after. That one habit can seriously cut down on that greenish or brassy shift.

Sun and heat: the sneaky faders

  • If you’re outdoors, protect your hair like you protect your skin. A hat helps more than any miracle product.
  • Keep hot tools to a minimum this week. If you love a blowout look, ask us for a heat setting that’s realistic for your hair.
  • Don’t over-wash. Two to three shampoos a week is plenty for many people, especially with highlights.

Our team hears a lot of “I’m coming back next month” after a great color day. Consistency is what keeps your highlight pattern looking intentional, not patchy, between visits.

Your 2-week routine: sulfate-free shampoo, purple shampoo, and one weekly mask

After day three, this is your simple maintenance routine. You don’t need a shelf full of stuff. You need the right basics used the right way.

1) Wash with color-safe, sulfate-free shampoo

This is the big one. Sulfates can pull color and toner out faster. Use lukewarm water, not hot, and focus shampoo on the scalp. Let the suds rinse through the ends instead of scrubbing them.

2) Purple shampoo 1 to 2 times a week (for blondes)

Purple shampoo is for toning down brassiness, not everyday cleansing. Start once a week. If your hair runs warm fast, go up to twice. If you overdo it, hair can look dull or slightly smoky.

3) Deep-condition once weekly

Highlights love moisture. A weekly mask helps with softness and shine, and it also makes detangling gentler so you get less breakage over time.

And if you commute on I-215 and want an easy stop-in along Blue Diamond Road, ask us about quick gloss appointments. They’re a simple way to refresh tone without redoing your full highlight.

Toner and gloss timing: book 4 to 8 weeks out (so you don’t chase brassiness)

Most highlight maintenance comes down to timing. We recommend planning your first toner or gloss at 4 to 8 weeks, depending on how fast your hair warms up and how much sun and pool time you’re getting.

Las Vegas tip: If your highlights fade faster in summer, gloss touch-ups can be a smarter move than waiting until you hate your tone. They’re quick, they’re predictable, and they keep your blonde looking fresh through pool season.

We’re in Southwest Las Vegas and we regularly see clients coming in from Enterprise, Spring Valley, Paradise, Rhodes Ranch, Southern Highlands, and Henderson for maintenance. If your schedule is tight, ask us about evening and weekend availability when you book.

If something feels “off, ” reach out. We’ll talk you through it.

“I’ve been coming to Bloom for years, and they seriously have every service you can think of. Ami is super friendly and is very knowledgeable about all the services offered.”

A little dryness is normal after highlights, especially if you’re used to daily heat styling. What we don’t want you to do is panic-fix it with harsh clarifying shampoos, lemon rinses, or random box “toners.” That’s how a small tone issue turns into a bigger correction.

Reach out if you notice unexpected brassiness after a pool day, your hair feels unusually rough after you washed it, or your tone looks uneven in different lighting. We’ll tell you if you need a quick gloss, a stronger mask routine, or just a small tweak in how you’re using purple shampoo.

Wait 48 hours before shampooing. That gives the cuticle time to settle so your toner and fresh tone stay cleaner longer. If you feel oily before then, dry shampoo is usually the safest option.

We recommend avoiding intense sweating for the first 48 hours. Light movement is fine, but skip hot yoga, long cardio sessions, and saunas until that 2-day window passes.

Pool chlorine and ocean salt can shift tone and dry out highlighted hair, especially right after your appointment. Avoid swimming for at least 72 hours. If you do swim, wet hair with fresh water first, apply a leave-in conditioner as a barrier, then rinse well right after.

Most blondes do best with purple shampoo 1 to 2 times a week. Start once weekly and adjust based on how warm your tone runs. Using it daily can make hair look dull or overly cool.

Plan on a toner or gloss around 4 to 8 weeks after your full highlight. If you’re in a lot of sun or swimming often, you may want a quicker gloss touch-up to keep brassiness from building up.

Yes. We do eyebrow threading and shaping, and many of our regulars keep it in the same routine as hair services so they stay polished between appointments.
