The single most important rule after a chemical peel like the VI Peel is simple: protect your skin from sun and heat while it’s peeling. We’ve seen it make a real difference for people who come to us for VI Peels and other treatments, including those working on acne and pigment. One long-time client told us they’ve done everything from facials to VI Peels here and “always feel so much better after the treatment and more confident in my skin.” In Las Vegas, the desert sun and low humidity can dry you out fast, so we keep aftercare practical and very specific.
0–48 hours after your VI Peel: the rules that prevent irritation
Right after a VI Peel, your skin is doing important work under the surface. Our goal for the first two days is to keep things calm so you don’t trigger extra redness, stinging, or uneven peeling.
Do: keep your face gently clean, moisturize with a bland, fragrance-free moisturizer, and wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. If you’re commuting along Blue Diamond Road, add physical shade too, like a hat or visor, because car windows and quick parking-lot walks still add up.
We generally recommend avoiding heavy sweating for 48–72 hours. That means no intense gym sessions, hot yoga, or long outdoor runs. Heat and sweat can sting, and they tend to make people want to rub their face, which is exactly what we’re trying to avoid.
Skip saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs, and hold off on swimming for 7–10 days. Chlorine and “soaking” can irritate fresh, peeling skin.
And please do not pick. Even if a piece is hanging and tempting, pulling early can leave you with raw spots that take longer to settle.
Days 3–7 is peak peeling: how to get through work and weekend plans
Most people start peeling around days 3–4, and it often calms down by day 7, though some dryness can linger into days 7–10. This is the part that feels “messy, ” especially if you have a shift to work, a family weekend, or you’re outdoors for golf or parks around Enterprise, Southern Highlands, or Henderson.
Keep cleansing gentle and hands off
Wash with a gentle cleanser, lukewarm water, and light pressure. Pat dry. If you scrub, use a washcloth, or try to “help” the flakes along, your skin usually gets redder and feels tighter.
Sun is the fastest way to lose your result
In Las Vegas, the sun and dry air can make post-peel skin feel extra thirsty. SPF 30+ every morning is non-negotiable, and we want you in shade whenever you can manage it. If you’re going to be outside midday, plan around it. Move the walk, the patio lunch, or the errands to early morning or later evening.
Makeup and exercise: go slow
We usually recommend waiting on makeup until peeling has calmed down, because foundation can cling to flakes and tempt you to rub. For exercise, hold off on vigorous sessions until sweating won’t sting and your peeling is mostly done, or we clear you based on how your skin is healing.
Products to use and avoid after a peeling chemical peel
After a VI Peel, simple wins. Think “calm and moisturized, ” not “active and aggressive.” If you’re acne-prone or working on pigmentation, it can feel hard to pause your usual routine. But that pause is often what keeps your skin from getting angry.
Use
- Gentle cleanser (no scrub beads, no exfoliating acids)
- Bland moisturizer (fragrance-free is ideal)
- Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning, and reapply if you’re outdoors
Avoid for at least 7–14 days
- Retinoids and prescription acne actives unless we tell you otherwise
- AHAs/BHAs, exfoliating toners, peels, scrubs, and at-home devices
- Anything that burns on contact, including heavily fragranced products
If you buy medical-grade skincare, we’ll help you time it correctly. A lot of “no results” after a chemical peel comes from restarting actives too early or trying to exfoliate flakes off before they’re ready.
What’s normal vs. a reason to call us (and we really do answer)
Dryness, tightness, and visible peeling are expected. A little redness can be normal too. What we do not want is escalating pain or signs that your skin is not settling the way it should.
Reach out to us if you notice increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, or peeling that lasts well beyond 10 days along with abnormal symptoms. If you’re unsure, we’d rather you check in than sit at home wondering.
We’re a long-time local spot in Southwest Las Vegas and Enterprise along the Blue Diamond Road corridor, and we keep scheduling realistic for real life, including commuters and hospitality workers who need evening or weekend options.
If your goal is clearer skin, smoother texture, or help with pigment and acne marks, a VI Peel at $300 is often a solid starting point. When you’re ready, we’ll talk through timing so your peak peeling does not land on your biggest week.
Quick answers: VI Peel aftercare questions we hear every week
How long does peeling last after a VI Peel?
Peeling often starts around days 3–4 and tends to calm down by day 7, with some people staying a bit dry through days 7–10. If peeling goes well beyond 10 days with unusual symptoms, reach out so we can guide you.
When can I wear makeup after a VI Peel?
Wait until your peeling has mostly subsided, or until we clear you based on how your skin is healing. Makeup can grab onto flakes and lead to rubbing, which is one of the quickest ways to irritate post-peel skin.
Can I exercise or go to the gym after a VI Peel?
We generally recommend avoiding heavy sweating for 48–72 hours. After that, ease back in and pay attention to stinging, flushing, or increased irritation. If your skin feels hot and reactive, give it another day.
How soon can I go out in the sun after a VI Peel?
You can be outside, but you need strict sun protection right away. Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning, add shade and a hat, and avoid peak sun when you can. Las Vegas sun is intense, and fresh post-peel skin is more vulnerable.
What skincare products should I use or avoid after a VI Peel?
Stick with a gentle cleanser, a bland moisturizer, and SPF. Avoid retinoids and exfoliants like AHAs/BHAs for at least 7–14 days, and do not use scrubs or at-home exfoliating devices while you’re peeling.
Is it normal to have a peeling chemical peel that looks patchy?
Yes, patchy peeling is common, especially around the mouth and nose. Do not pull at it. Keep moisturizing, keep your cleansing gentle, and let the skin release on its own.
Tip for planning: If you want the least “visible peel” during work shifts, we usually suggest scheduling so days 3–5 fall on quieter days or time off, when possible.
