Microdermabrasion Aftercare: Your First Week Skin Care Plan

By Bloom Salon & Med Spa | September 18, 2026

Microdermabrasion aftercare timeline and first week skin care plan for microderm in Las Vegas

We love that “phenomenal” facial-massage feeling, but the number one microderm aftercare rule is simple: treat your skin gently for the first 24 to 72 hours. That means a mild, non-foaming cleanse, a fragrance-free moisturizer, and broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every time you step outside. In Las Vegas, the sun and heat can undo a great result fast, so your first week is all about protecting that fresh, just-polished glow.

First 24 to 48 hours after microderm: keep it clean, calm, and covered

Microdermabrasion uses microcrystals to exfoliate the surface of your skin, which is exactly why you look brighter afterward. It also means your skin is more reactive for a short window. We generally recommend you keep your routine almost boring for the first day or two.

48-hour checklist: gentle cleanser, fragrance-free moisturizer, SPF 30+, no makeup, no heavy sweating, and no direct sun.

Do this right away

  • Cleanse with a mild, non-foaming cleanser. Use lukewarm water and your fingertips, not a washcloth or cleansing brush.
  • Moisturize with a fragrance-free lotion or cream. In our dry Southwest Las Vegas air, hydration is usually what your skin asks for first.
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. Reapply if you are outdoors, driving around, or sitting near bright windows.

Avoid these for 24 to 48 hours

  • Makeup, especially heavier foundations and powders.
  • Hard workouts and anything that causes heavy sweating. Sweat plus heat tends to sting freshly exfoliated skin.
  • Long hot showers, steam rooms, and saunas.

If you are commuting on I-215 or running errands along the Blue Diamond Road corridor, keep SPF in your bag or car. That quick sun exposure adds up here.

Days 3 to 7: how to keep the “hydrated and glowing” look

A lot of our facial clients talk about leaving hydrated and glowing, especially after layers of moisturizer in the Las Vegas dry heat. Your job during the first week is to protect that finish, not scrub it off. Think of microderm like a fresh buff and polish. Too many strong products too soon can turn “glowy” into “irritated.”

Your simple rule for the week: no picking, no exfoliating, and no “let’s see what happens if I try my strongest serum.”

Ingredients to pause for at least 3 to 7 days

  • Retinoids and retinol
  • AHAs and BHAs (glycolic, lactic, salicylic)
  • Exfoliating scrubs, peeling pads, cleansing brushes, and at-home resurfacing tools

Heat and water exposures to avoid for 48 to 72 hours

  • Pools, hot tubs, and soaking in shared water
  • Saunas and steam rooms
  • Long hot showers that leave your face flushed

If you have an outdoor day coming up, like golf or a park event, schedule microderm with a few recovery days built in. In our desert climate, midday heat plus sun is usually the fastest way to trigger redness.

The “personal microderm” question: what we want you doing at home (and what we don’t)

We get asked about personal microderm devices a lot. After a professional microdermabrasion appointment, we want you to skip at-home exfoliation for a bit. Your skin is already freshly resurfaced. Stacking more abrasion on top is when people run into unnecessary sensitivity.

Keep it simple

Gentle cleanse, hydrate, SPF. If you want a serum, go for hydrating ingredients that usually feel soothing.

Hydration helpers

Look for hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. These support the moisture barrier without that “zing” active products can cause.

If you are unsure when to restart your actives, ask us at your follow-up. We would rather you text or call than guess and have your skin get cranky.

Redness, sensitivity, and when to call us on Blue Diamond Rd

Mild redness and a “tight” feeling can happen after microdermabrasion. It often settles within a day or two. If you feel dry, focus on hydration and skip anything scented or active until you feel normal again.

If redness is getting worse instead of better, you have significant swelling, or your skin feels hot and uncomfortable, let us know. We are an easy stop-in along the Blue Diamond Road corridor in Southwest Las Vegas, and we can talk you through what you are seeing and what to do next.

Quick FAQ: microderm rules for makeup, workouts, swimming, and ingredients

If you are balancing shift work, family duties, and a packed schedule in Enterprise, Spring Valley, Paradise, Rhodes Ranch, Southern Highlands, or Henderson, this is the short version you can save.

How soon can I wear makeup after microdermabrasion?

We generally recommend waiting at least 24 hours. If your skin still feels sensitive the next day, give it another day and stick to clean brushes and lighter products when you return to makeup.

Can I exercise after microdermabrasion?

It is best to skip heavy sweating for 24 to 48 hours. If you do a light walk, keep your face out of direct sun and cleanse gently afterward.

How long will my skin be red or sensitive after microdermabrasion?

A little pinkness or sensitivity often fades within 24 to 48 hours. If you are still very red after a couple of days, or it is worsening, let us know so we can guide you.

Can I go swimming or use a hot tub after microdermabrasion?

We generally recommend waiting 48 to 72 hours before pools, hot tubs, and similar shared water. Your skin is more vulnerable right after exfoliation, and it is not worth the irritation risk.

What skincare ingredients should I avoid after microdermabrasion?

Pause retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, exfoliating scrubs, and strong peeling products for at least 3 to 7 days. When you restart, ease in slowly and keep SPF consistent.

Is personal microderm okay right after a treatment?

Not right away. Give your skin time to settle first. If you use an at-home device, we will tell you when it is reasonable to reintroduce it based on how your skin is doing.
