Carbon laser aftercare: First 7 days after Carbon Laser Face Resurfacing

By Bloom Salon & Med Spa | October 21, 2026

The #1 rule: protect your skin barrier and keep heat and sun off it. For the first 48 hours, we want lukewarm cleansing, no makeup, no heavy sweating, and no direct sun. Mild redness and light flaking are common. In Las Vegas, our dry air and strong UV can undo good work fast, so this part matters.

A lot of people come to us nervous about doing anything to their face, especially if breakouts and dark spots are already a concern. We hear that hesitation all the time, and we also see the relief when skin starts looking clearer after just a couple of visits. Carbon Laser Face Resurfacing is one of our go-to options for pigmentation, fine lines, and texture when you want a fresh glow without weeks of hiding out. The aftercare is what protects that result. This is the exact 7-day plan we walk our Southwest Las Vegas and Enterprise clients through, especially because the desert sun is no joke.

If you want to understand where carbon laser fits in your overall plan, we also wrote a guide on laser treatments in Las Vegas.

Day 0 to 2: The carbon laser face aftercare rules that prevent irritation

Keep it simple for 48 hours: gentle cleanse, hydrate the barrier, and avoid heat, sweat, friction, and sun.

Cleansing and moisturizing

We generally recommend rinsing with lukewarm water the first day, then a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser as tolerated. Pat dry. No scrubbing, no cleansing brushes, and no exfoliating cloths. Then apply a simple, barrier-supporting moisturizer or the soothing product we recommended for you. If your skin feels tight, that is common in our low-humidity Las Vegas air. Add moisture more often, not stronger products.

Makeup, sweat, and heat

Skip makeup for the first 48 hours. Your pores and barrier need a clean, calm window to settle. Avoid heavy sweating too. That means no intense workouts, no sauna, no steam room, no hot yoga, and no hot tubs for at least 48 to 72 hours, or until we clear you. Heat tends to bring redness back and can irritate freshly treated skin.

If you work long shifts or you are running between errands in the Blue Diamond Road corridor, keep it practical. Cool rinse, gentle moisturizer, and a clean mask or clean pillowcase go a long way during those first two nights.

Days 3 to 7: Managing flaking, texture, and the Las Vegas sun

This is the part where people get tempted to “help” the process. Please don’t. Light flaking and a slightly sandpapery feel can show up as your skin turns over. Picking, rubbing, or over-cleansing is one of the fastest ways to end up irritated, blotchy, or stuck with redness longer than you needed.

If you had carbon laser for breakouts and dark spots: staying gentle this week is what keeps you moving forward. We regularly see the biggest “wow” changes when people resist the urge to jump back into acids and scrubs too soon.

Sun exposure after carbon laser

Direct sun is the big one, especially here in Las Vegas and out toward Henderson where you might be in and out of parking lots all day. Avoid direct sun during healing. When you do go outside, wear a wide-brim hat and use a mineral SPF 30+ once your skin is no longer raw or overly sensitive. Reapply if you are outdoors. UV plus fresh treatment is a recipe for pigment coming right back.

What to avoid until you’re fully calm

  • Retinoids, AHAs, BHAs: hold off through at least the first week, and often closer to 7 to 14 days. We will tell you when to restart.
  • Physical exfoliation: no scrubs, no brushes, no dermaplaning tools at home.
  • High heat: keep workouts moderate until you are past the easily-flushed stage and we clear you for full intensity.

A simple carbon laser skincare routine that protects your $750 result

Carbon Laser Face Resurfacing is an investment. Aftercare is what keeps that investment working for you instead of fighting your skin.

Morning (Days 1 to 7)

Gentle cleanse or rinse, barrier moisturizer, then mineral SPF 30+ once your skin feels calm enough for it. Add a hat if you are in and out of the sun.

Night (Days 1 to 7)

Gentle cleanse, then a fragrance-free moisturizer. If you feel dry or tight, apply a second layer. Keep it boring this week. Boring heals well.

If you already use “strong” actives, we will help you step back in at the right pace. Most problems we see after laser-style treatments come from restarting retinoids or exfoliants too early, especially in the dry Enterprise and Spring Valley climate where skin dehydrates quickly.

If something feels off, we want to know early

Mild redness, warmth, and light flaking tend to be normal. What we do not want is increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, or skin that seems to be getting worse instead of settling. If you see any of that, reach out promptly. We would rather talk to you early than have you stress and guess at home.

I always feel so welcomed here and all thanks to Ricky and his staff!
